The Texas singer-songwriter is known for driving country-rock. His new single asks listeners to do the opposite of drive.
Todd Barrow has built a catalogue on motion: open roads, loud guitars, songs about not looking back. His new single, “Sit Back and Breathe”, goes the other way. Released on 13 June 2026 and running three and a half minutes, it is a country song about stopping.
The message is in the title. Slow down, notice where you are, and let the pressure of everyday life drop for a moment. It is a simple idea, and a well-timed one.
The change of pace stands out against what came just before. “Rockin in the City” in 2024 was high-energy country-rock. “Aint Lookin Back Now” followed in April 2025 with a confident, forward-facing theme, and “Road Warrior (Street Machine)” arrived later that year on driving, rock-and-roll rhythms.
After three songs with a foot on the accelerator, “Sit Back and Breathe” is the reflective one. It shows a writer who can handle a quiet mood as comfortably as a loud one.
That range comes from where he started. Barrow grew up in Texas, surrounded by country, blues and independent songwriting, and his influences run from Johnny Cash, Hank Williams and Elvis Presley to Buddy Holly, Ronnie Milsap, Alabama and the Eagles.

He took something from each: storytelling from classic country, energy from rock and roll, feeling from the blues. His sound today sits across country, rock, blues and Americana.
He is also a multi-instrumentalist, playing guitar, piano, mandolin, harmonica and drums. That helps explain why his records vary so much from one to the next.
The career behind the songs is a long one. Barrow’s professional path has crossed with John Schneider, Paul Overstreet, Lulu Roman and Billy Joe Shaver. The late Texas musician Sonny Burgess became a mentor and collaborator, according to Barrow’s IMDb biography.
He has appeared on Good Morning Texas and Texas Music Café, and his artist profiles list an Akademia Award and a PRSA Award of Excellence. He has acting credits too, a natural step for someone whose work has always been about telling stories.
All of that experience feeds into the new single. It takes a certain confidence for an artist known for energy to release a song about stillness, and Barrow has earned it. “Sit Back and Breathe” is the sound of a road warrior pulling over and enjoying the view.
