Not every music career starts with ambition. Sometimes it starts with proximity — being in the right room long enough for something to click. For Berrybillionx, that room was a church, and the “something” was a set of instrumentals he found himself drawn to play.
He didn’t walk away from that experience with a plan. He walked away with a question: what happens if I try to make this myself? The answer took shape on his sister’s laptop, with no studio, no formal lessons, and no shortcuts. He learned beat-making the way most self-taught producers do — by getting it wrong repeatedly until it started sounding right.
Learning through other people’s sessions
His growth didn’t happen in isolation. Friends began connecting him with working artists, and those connections turned into real collaborations. Sitting in on those sessions taught him more than any tutorial could — how a record actually comes together, how songwriting works under pressure, and how easy it is to lose your own voice if you’re not paying attention. He came out of that period with a clearer sense of who Berrybillionx was supposed to be.
Genre-blending by design
His catalogue doesn’t sit still. Across projects, he moves between Afrobeats, Afro fusion, Hip Hop, and wider contemporary African influences, chasing energy and melody over any single sound. It’s a deliberate refusal to be boxed in.
That approach is visible in his output: “ATTENTION” with Nigerian artist ODUMODUBLVCK stands as one of his key records, alongside “Ebg (Episode of a Bad Girl)” and “How Many” with Rhatti, Laime, and Sambalitual. His 2024 EP “Fr2r” pushed that further, gathering six tracks and a wide cast of collaborators — GRNDPA, Blaqboi otb, INSANE CHIPS, Zenn, Sambalitual, Psycho YP, Hotkid, and Laime.
The point isn’t the output — it’s the effect
Ask him what success looks like and it’s not streaming numbers or feature credits. It’s whether a listener feels something — whether a track becomes the soundtrack to a night out, a memory, a boost of confidence, or just a brief escape. That’s the metric that matters to him.
No perfect starting point required
Berrybillionx’s story doesn’t offer a formula, and that’s kind of the point. There was no ideal setup, no industry connections waiting for him, no clear plan mapped out in advance — just a laptop that wasn’t his, a genuine interest in music, and the willingness to keep going after the early, rough attempts.
Church instrumentals led to self-taught production. Self-taught production led to collaborations. Collaborations led to a growing catalogue and a sound all his own. None of it required certainty at the outset — just the decision to begin.
